New Library Mural Nears Completion

Laura Flanagan, librarian of 17 years at our beautiful Ellicottville Memorial Library, received a call from the Springville Library a year+ ago, asking her to pick up some books that belonged to our library. Off she went, and as she drove around the back of the library to park, she had a WOW! moment when she spotted beautiful paintings on the library fence. She took photos and came back to the Ellicottville Library Board, pitching the idea to do something similar here on our library campus.
ECS Creates STEM Program for Elementary Students
Former US Secretary of Education Richard Riley once said that schools are preparing students for jobs that don’t yet exist to use as-of-yet undiscovered technology to solve problems we’ve never faced. So how can teachers prepare students for an unknown future? Embracing STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) education is key, and Ellicottville Central School is pleased to announce the addition of an elementary school STEM teacher beginning this school year!
Fine Arts & Crafts Market This Weekend
ELLICOTTVILLE - The Tri-County Arts Council (TCAC) is pleased to welcome the community to the 2nd Ellicottville Fine Art and Craft Market during the Labor Day Weekend - this weekend - in Ellicottville NY on the lawn of the 1887 Building (Route 219 in the center of town). The Market will run Saturday, August 31st from 10:00am-5:00pm and Sunday, September 1st from 10:00am-4:00pm. This event is a partnership between the Tri-County Arts Council and the Ellicottville Chamber of Commerce.

Buffalo Man Admits Guilt in Major Fentanyl Case, Faces Lengthy Prison Sentence
(WNY News Now) – Buffalo — Hector Anaya, a 51-year-old Buffalo resident, has pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute fentanyl, a charge that carries a mandatory minimum sentence of five years in prison and could lead to a maximum of 40 years behind bars, along with a fine of up to $5 million. U.S. Attorney Trini E. Ross announced the plea, which was accepted by U.S. District Judge John L. Sinatra, Jr.

Driver attempts to ‘mow down’ Slow Roll bikers in North Buffalo, in an alarming video
BUFFALO, N.Y. — An alarming video shared on Facebook/Instagram shows the moments a driver nearly plowed into a flow of bikers at Monday’s Slow Roll. Simon Husted, a volunteer at the event who posted the video online, said he was blocking traffic like he does every week at the community bicycle ride at the intersection of Amherst St. and Starin Ave. in North Buffalo when a Dodge Durango pulled up.

BUFFALO – During their chats leading up to the NHL Draft, Hamburg native Patrick Geary told the Sabres that in the past, he had often played a raw, undisciplined game. “He used the term that a couple of coaches used with him, he was a little bit of a cowboy on the ice at times,” assistant general manager Jerry Forton said June 29 after the Sabres selected Geary in the sixth round, 174th overall, at the NHL Draft in Las Vegas.

Olean Police Arrest Fugitive From Justice
OLEAN NY — Police arrested Jonathon Jackson, 34, Wednesday and charged him with being a fugitive from justice.
