Arne Slot 'bans' feature of Jurgen Klopp training ahead of new Liverpool season

Liverpool is just one week away from kicking off its 2024-25 Premier League campaign as pre-season slowly draws to a close and, despite failing to sign a single player so far this summer, there's an undeniable buzz among the fanbase.

Perhaps that is largely in part due to the fresh chapter that's about to unfold, with Arne Slot now at the helm following Jurgen Klopp's departure at the end of last season.

The Dutchman has certainly wasted no time in getting to work at Anfield , either, with plenty of clips and footage from pre-season training catching the eye of many in recent weeks. There have also been impressive friendly victories over Real Betis, Arsenal and Manchester United in the United States.

However, as the Reds prepare for their final pre-season tests against Sevilla and Las Palmas at Anfield on Sunday, more training ground footage has emerged as the excitement builds.

But one eagle-eyed fan account on X (formerly Twitter) has spotted a noticeable change in training since Slot's arrival. The Dutchman appears to have already stamped his authority on the squad by taking away a constant from Klopp's era.

In the latest instalment of Liverpool's Inside Training, the players can be seen getting involved in rondos, a commonly used exercise among the group. However, Watch LFC pointed out an interesting observation from the footage and it's got fans talking.

In response to the post, the account wrote: "Slot has banned the players from doing back heels/drag back flicks in rondos. Under Klopp all the players used them when space got tight but Slot and his coaches now want players to 'open' their bodies instead."

While it may seem like a minor issue in the grand scheme of things, Slot clearly wants his players to play a different way when finding themselves in this certain scenario, offering further insight into his tactics and the way he wants to set his teams up.

The account also noted how Joe Gomez was forced into the middle of the rondo as punishment for successfully pulling off a flick during the drill, highlighting further that Slot will not tolerate the once-commonly used tactic.

Perhaps that will be translated into Liverpool's play on Sunday, when the Reds take on La Liga duo Sevilla and Las Palmas at Anfield in a bizarre double-header to end pre-season. Sevilla are the first visitors at 12:30pm (BST), before Las Palmas take to the field at 5:30pm.

It's thought a squad of around 26 players will be involved across both fixtures, with Slot eager to give minutes to as many players as possible ahead of the opening game of the campaign away to Ipswich Town next Saturday.
