Sevilla aims cheeky dig at Jurgen Klopp after Liverpool thrashing in Arne Slot's Anfield bow

Sevilla made sure to aim a cheeky dig at ex- Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp before being thrashed 4-1 by the Reds at Anfield on Sunday afternoon .

The Reds ran out comfortable winners against the La Liga side in what was Arne Slot's first home game in charge of Liverpool following Klopp's departure back in May. A Luis Diaz brace, coupled with sensational goals from Diogo Jota and youngster Trey Nyoni saw the Reds on their way past Sevilla.

But, while they were thoroughly beaten on the day, Sevilla took to social media before the clash to aim a cheeky dig at former Liverpool boss Klopp. Writing on X, formerly Twitter, the Spanish side jokingly mocked the German's dislike of a 12:30pm kick off.

They wrote: "12:30 kick off at Anfield Wonder what Jurgen would have made of it…". However, given the final result of the contest, Sevilla came in for some stick on social media in the aftermath of the game at Anfield.

One user replied: "1:15 HT at Anfield, 3-0 to Liverpool, wonder what @SevillaFC_ENG made of the first half." A second added: "He would say hold dat 4-1 loss." And a third commented: "LFC will smoke you guys."

But there were also plenty of football fans on social media who enjoyed Sevilla's harmless joke. "I love how these secondary accounts are so banterous" wrote one fan. Another commented: "Missed this. World class social media." And a third added: "Pool fans are trying to cook with pre-season results. Know your place" attaching a photo of ex-Sevilla star Coke celebrating their Europa League final win over the Reds back in 2016.

On the pitch though, Slot will have been delighted with the performance of his side, especially given the lack of time he has had to work with a number of Liverpool's returning international stars who have missed the majority of pre-season.

Liverpool.com says: "While some pre-season games need to be taken with a pinch of salt, some of the goals Liverpool scored against Sevilla were simply sublime, especially Luis Diaz's second. Baiting the press, Alisson fired a ball long which saw Liverpool counter at breakneck pace, with Diogo Jota collecting a second ball to slot Szoboszlai through on goal.

"Unselfishly, the Hungarian midfielder then neatly squared the ball to Diaz to cooly slotted home into an empty net. And If that was a sign of things to come this season, Liverpool fans should be very excited."
