Liverpool skipper Virgil van Dijk showed his class after he ushered youngster Trey Nyoni to take in the Anfield crowd celebrations following his goal against Sevilla .

Arne Slot's side ran out 4-1 winners in their penultimate pre-season friendly, with a Luis Diaz brace and goals from Diogo Jota and Nyoni seeing Liverpool past the Spanish side. Sevilla were no match for the Reds, who welcomed back a host of international stars following their extended holidays due to competing at both Euro 2024 and the Copa America.

Impressively, all four of Liverpool's goals were fantastic. Diaz produced a lovely finish for his first, before capping off an excellent team move for his second. Jota netted a stunning full volley for the Reds, with Nyoni also scoring in the second half.

The 17-year-old has impressed this summer during pre-season under Slot, but with the Reds stars returning, will likely either go out on-loan, or spend time with Liverpool's development sides this coming season. And after scoring his goal, which saw him mobbed by his teammates, skipper van Dijk made sure the teenager received the praise he deserved from the Anfield crowd.

After the initial celebrations, Liverpool's players began to head back to their half with Sevilla preparing to kick-off. However, van Dijk made a point to grab Nyoni, and shove him towards the crowd so he could once again be applauded and cheered by the Anfield crowd. The midfielder gave the Reds supporters a couple of fist pumps before turning back to rejoin his teammates.

And while it was only a brief moment that could have been missed, it was still a classy gesture from the Reds skipper, who has been taking a keen interest in Nyoni's development. Speaking back in November 2023, Liverpool youth coach Jay Spearing revealed the Dutchman had personally congratulated Nyoni on being invited to train with the Reds senior squad.

Spearing said: "Virgil came up to him and congratulated him on training with them. He said, ‘He’s [Nyoni] got a lot more to come’ and he really liked him. Virgil also came out to watch the U-18s against Middlesbrough to see how Trey was playing."

Liverpool.com says: "It was a lovely gesture from van Dijk to make sure Nyoni received the plaudits he deserved against Sevilla. While he may only be young, and Liverpool will have to manage his development correctly, they look to have a real player on their hands in Nyoni."
