Liverpool head coach Arne Slot was happy to make his first appearance at Anfield during the double-header with Sevilla, a 4-1 win, and then Las Palmas, a goalless draw.

The Dutch coach has overseen five friendlies so far this summer, winning four and drawing one. Matches in the USA against Real Betis, Arsenal and Manchester United, though, were far away from home — today was his first experience of his new dugout.

"That’s always nice, no matter which team you lead," Slot said post-match. "Always if you play a home game it’s always nice. If you lead a team with 15,000 fans it’s nice; if you lead a team with 50,000 it’s even nicer.

"And if you lead a team that has 60,000 fans that are also constantly behind the team, similar to my former club at Feyenoord, those are always games to look forward to, and I got a taste of it today."

Diogo Jota , who got on the scoresheet against Sevilla with a brilliant left-footed volley, looked sharp and was also glad to be back at Anfield again — 84 days after the final match of the Jurgen Klopp era against Wolves.

"We know the support we have is always with us and that gives us a huge boost," he said live on LFCTV after the first match of the day. "I think they know that and I hope this season we can all together create something special."

Liverpool.com says: Slot has rightly played it cool so far in his time at Anfield, with the Liverpool boss standing with his arms folded and his hands in his pockets for most of the first match, even when his name rang out in the stands. Like Klopp, he too probably doesn't want to be the center of attention. That should be reserved for those on the pitch, at least until the game in question is w on.
