Just a matter of days after Liverpool’s move for Martin Zubimendi collapsed, there appears to be some renewed hope that the Reds could revive the transfer .

Liverpool’s chances of bringing the midfielder to Anfield appeared to be dead in the water when Zubimendi turned down the chance to move to Merseyside in favor of staying put with Real Sociedad. Since then though, all doesn’t appear to be well between the player and his boyhood club.

According to The Times , Sociedad is facing problems in trying to tie Zubimendi down to a new deal . The Basque club had promised to make the 25-year-old their highest-paid player, although contract talks are not going to plan.

Zubimendi is said to want the same level of desire that Liverpool showed him, with the Reds having reportedly offered him three times his current $64,000 (£50,000/€58,000) per week wages.

Meanwhile, fresh reports in Spain have suggested Liverpool could make a last-ditch attempt at signing Zubimendi . El Diario Vasco claims the Reds are willing to pay the midfielder’s $66.2million (£51.5m/€60m) buyout clause, or even go above it in order to get a deal over the line.

This has led to some hope among fans that a deal might could still be revived. The Athletic’s James Pearce has suggested that might not be completely out of the question, although it would come as a major surprise at this point.

Speaking to Born N’Red , the journalist suggests there is no indication at the moment that Liverpool feels the transfer can be revived, although the club is unlikely to have gone off Zubimendi despite him turning down a move earlier in the week.

Pearce though points out that wages wouldn’t have played a big part in Zubimendi’s decision given Liverpool would have been able to blow Sociedad out of the water with their offer. Instead, it’s his emotional bond with the club that likely swayed him.

Liverpool.com says: Even with the reported issues in the contract discussions, we can’t see a move to Liverpool being revived for Zubimendi. You don’t just turn down an offer unless you have your mind made up already, regardless of wages.

It is of course worth keeping an eye on the situation in case there are any more problems between Zubimendi and Sociedad, and there might be a slight opportunity for Liverpool to pounce. At this stage though, the Reds should move on to other targets, despite reports they won’t pursue any other No.6 options.
