Giorgi Mamardashvili may not play for Liverpool for TWO years after fresh transfer 'offer'

Giorgi Mamardashvili may end up not playing for Liverpool for another two years despite the Valencia goalkeeper being strongly linked with a move to Anfield .

Reports this week have suggested the Reds are closing in on the signing of the Georgia international , fresh from the disappointment of being rejected by Martin Zubimendi at the start of the week .

There is though conjecture as to what form Mamardashvili’s signing would take for Liverpool . The most common theory suggests he will spend time out on loan before linking up with the Reds, although there are varying reports on where he will go and how long he will spend before finally arriving at Anfield.

Initial reports suggested Mamardashvili would remain at Valencia for another year before arriving on Merseyside, while recent claims point to a loan move to Bournemouth.

Now, Spanish outlet AS has claimed the 23-year-old has been offered a two-year loan at Bournemouth, with the Cherries one of four clubs interested in signing him. Mamardashvili is said to have accepted the offer, much to the annoyance of Valencia.

It’s claimed that the goalkeeper has maintained behind the scenes that he would either go to a big club or stay with the Spanish side. A move to a mid-table Premier League side was seemingly not in the plans, although it does appear to be part of his efforts to secure a move to Liverpool.

The Reds are said to be confident that Valencia will accept an offer of around $39m (£30m/€35m) plus bonuses, with Mamardashvili then joining up with Liverpool in 2026. That would see him arrive just one year before Alisson Becker’s contract expires.

There is though one glaring problem with the proposal. As Mundo Deportivo has pointed out, Premier League rules do not allow a player to head out on loan during the same window in which they have been signed permanently by a club, meaning Liverpool may have to find another route to bring Mamardashvili to Anfield.

Liverpool.com says: This whole situation seems very strange. Every report at the moment seems to suggest Mamardashvili will head straight out on loan after signing for Liverpool, yet the rules seemingly wouldn’t allow that.

Spending half a season behind Alisson at Anfield perhaps wouldn’t be the worst thing if it came to that, but that would raise questions over Caoimhin Kelleher’s place in the squad. If the Irishman leaves this summer, sending Mamardashvili out on loan in January might be a bit of a risk.

Then there are the obvious questions over Alisson’s future , given Mamardashvili is seemingly being lined up as his successor. How long exactly will the Brazilian stay at Anfield? Hopefully we get some answers soon.
