Liverpool is yet to reach an agreement with Valencia for the transfer of goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili despite reportedly continuing negotiations.

The La Liga outfit has made it very clear that it wishes to keep hold of its current No.1 and manager Ruben Baraja has also made his stance known. Speaking to Spanish media, the 49-year-old insisted that nothing is imminent and refused to address any further questions over the matter.

“It is very simple. As long as there is nothing, I am not going to evaluate it. I am not talking about hypotheses,” Baraja said in his pre-match press conference ahead of Saturday's La Liga clash with Barcelona, as per Marca .

“He has a contract with Valencia and, as long as there is no different situation, he is our player. He is ready to participate in tomorrow’s game. He is prepared to compete, when things happen, we will talk when they happen.”

The report also reveals how Mamardashvili has trained as normal this week and is expected to start at the Mestalla Stadium in just over 24 hours' time, despite Liverpool seemingly pushing to get a deal over the line.

The Reds have identified the 23-year-old shot-stopper as the perfect long-term successor to current No.1 Alisson , whose contract doesn't run out until 2027. With this in mind, Liverpool is keen to sign Mamardashvili and then immediately send him out on loan.

According to reports, the Georgian international, who featured for his nation at Euro 2024 this summer, does not wish to return to Valencia on a season-long loan if a deal does go through. Instead, Liverpool is said to be keen on loaning him out to fellow Premier League outfit Bournemouth for him to further his career.

Spanish outlet AS also reports that Mamardashvili is on board with the arrangement, which is likely to last two seasons before he links up with Liverpool . However, Premier League rules state that a player cannot be signed and then immediately loaned to another side in the same division, in the same transfer window, so alternative arrangements would have to be made.

Nonetheless, a deal will not go through unless Liverpool meets Valencia's valuation of the player. The Spanish outfit is determined to hold out for $44million (£34m/€40m) if it is to consider departing with the player, a fee that has deterred the likes of Chelsea and Newcastle in the past.

The Reds have reportedly tabled $39m (£30m/€35m) plus bonuses and are growing in confidence that Valencia will eventually accept this offer. However, reports continue to vary and with just two weeks left of the transfer window, there remains every chance a deal will not go through.
