Giorgi Mamardashvili transfer: Liverpool hit roadblock, Valencia stance on 'dream'

The saga of Liverpool attempting to cross the line to obtain Giorgi Mamardashvili's services has taken yet another turn .

On Friday, it was reported that Valencia have begun to formally negotiate terms with Liverpool on a deal that would see the Georgian play at Anfield in the near future. However, there were conflicting reports that the Reds did not meet Valencia's terms, with the La Liga side stating Liverpool did not reach the allotted $44 million (£34m/€40m) required.

These updates come after it was reported the 23-year-old had given his assent to an arrangement that would see him spend two seasons at Bournemouth before eventually moving to Liverpool. That move would be highly unlikely however as Premier League rules stipulate that clubs are seemingly unable to sign a player and immediately loan him out.

Mamardashvili has long maintained behind closed doors his preference for either playing at a big club or staying with Valencia. A switch to Bournemouth seems to be a decision made to help him get to Liverpool faster, a move that seemed to have annoyed the Spanish club.

With all the reports flying around, Valencia manager Ruben Baraja made it clear what he thinks of the situation surrounding his side and Mamardashvili. When asked by Spanish media about the situation, Baraja cleared the air and specified how no move was in the cards for the 23-year-old goalkeeper.

“It is very simple. As long as there is nothing, I am not going to evaluate it. I am not talking about hypotheses,” Baraja told reporters before Valencia's match with Barcelona, per Marca .

He also confirmed Mamardashvili trained with the club. In no uncertain terms, unless there is a concrete update, Baraja will not comment on the Georgian's future with Valencia or other clubs.

"He has a contract with Valencia and, as long as there is no different situation, he is our player," the 49-year-old said. "He is ready to participate in tomorrow’s game. He is prepared to compete, when things happen, we will talk when they happen."

Should a deal with Valencia for Mamardashvili be finalized, which would see the Georgian spend two seasons at another club before returning to Liverpool, it certainly is a move that is done for the future of the side. As it stands, it appears as if the reports of Mamardashvili arriving in two seasons is how the club will transition from Alisson to the next era .

The Brazilian star's contract is set to run out in 2027 and with Mamardashvili set to arrive just a year before then - provided all is agreed upon - that would give the club and player ample time to adjust.

It also has been reported that the Brazilian is garnering interest from the Saudi Pro League . For now, everything remains up in the air until the situation with Mamardashvili becomes clearer.
