Dominik Szoboszlai explains to Michael Owen why Liverpool preseason was so intense under Arne Slot

Liverpool central midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai has explained Arne Slot's playing style while admitting their preseason preparations gave them the upper hand in their win over Ipswich Town.

Liverpool defeated Ipswich 2-0 with second-half goals from Mohamed Salah and Diogo Jota to secure the victory, coming after a poor first-half performance.

While Ipswich had faded in the second, the Reds had put their foot on the gas while creating 13 chances in front of goal and dominating possession - something they'd gone into the game looking to achieve.

Under new head coach Slot, the Reds are looking to keep a hold of the ball much more than under Jurgen Klopp - who looked to create chances with using the team's pace and counter-attacking play to catch teams out.

The Reds lined up in a similar 4-3-3 formation, but took some time to settle into the game before showing their class in the second half

And Szoboszlai told Owen and Premier League Productions after the game: "We would like to have the ball, and at the same time be intense without the ball. (Under Slot) we have to work without the ball quite a lot. That is why we had such an intense preseason, so that we could be running in the 90th minute as well. But we are happy."

The Hungarian midfielder admitted that Liverpool was sloppy in the first half, with Slot clearly hammering home his point that they must be as intense as they were in the second half in the first half of future games.

He added: "From the next week on we have to be ready from the first minute... sometimes you concede a goal and then it's too late."

Liverpool remains the only team to not have signed a player to their first-team squad this summer, which continues to be a huge talking point around the team.

Captain Virgil van Dijk has already told the front office that he feels they must make additions if they are to compete amongst the likes of Manchester City and Arsenal.

And while Slot had not ruled out the club making a move for a big name to add to the squad before the deadline in two weeks time, he has revealed that he's happy with his squad. He told TNT Sports: "A lot has been said of our (lack there of) signings, We have many good players. If we can find another one, we don't hesitate to do so. But we have many already."
