Anthony Gordon has his sights set on silverware this season amid rumors of a potential transfer move to Liverpool from Newcastle. The talented winger was named in the starting line-up for the Magpies' match against Southampton.

The Reds have shown a keen interest in Gordon during the summer transfer window, with negotiations between the clubs taking place earlier on. Although those talks didn't result in a move happening, Liverpool remains interested in the England international.

Gordon's impressive performances last term not only made him an integral part of Newcastle but also landed him a spot in the England squad for the European Championships this summer. He's determined to carry on his form into the new season, no matter which shirt he dons.

Speaking on Adidas UK's official Instagram account , Gordon expressed his ambitions: "My goal this season is to win games and win a trophy," adding that he's eager to experience the thrill of playing in front of fans again as the 2024/25 season kicks off.

"What I'm looking forward to about getting the 2024/25 season underway, it's just being back in the stadium with the fans and getting a rush of adrenaline when I'm walking out."

Describing his feelings about the season's first game, he said: "If I have to describe the first game of the season in three words, I would say: Excitement, fun, and opportunity."

Meanwhile, Liverpool's transfer window has been marked by frustration, with the club yet to secure any new signings under the stewardship of their new head coach Arne Slot . Their pursuit of Real Sociedad's midfielder Martin Zubimendi ended in disappointment as the player chose to remain with his current team.

Slot, in the run-up to the win over Ipswich, touched on the transfer speculation swirling around Zubimendi. "I've said many times already our squad is really strong and it's not easy to find players who can help us or strengthen the squad," he said. "Zubimendi was one of them to be fair but he decided not to come. We go forward with the ones we have. We are in a good place."

Slot also acknowledged the effort put in by Richard Hughes behind the scenes, saying: "In the background, Richard is trying to strengthen the squad as he can, but unfortunately Zubimendi decided not to come. He did every effort and tried everything to bring him in but if a player doesn't want to come, it's obvious he's not coming."

Liverpool.com says: If Gordon wants to win a trophy, he would be best moving to Liverpool before the transfer deadline. Eddie Howe's side has a chance of improving substantially this season but Liverpool should be the team with the greatest chance of picking up more silverware. If a deal is possible for Gordon before August 30, the Reds should be all over it.
