Arne Slot has explained how to get the best out of Darwin Nunez

Arne Slot knows that he must get the best out of Darwin Nunez if his Liverpool side are to be successful this season with the Dutchman outlining his plans for his number nine.

Nunez has put together two solid seasons for the Reds since becoming their record transfer addition, but it wasn't enough to convince Slot to give him the start over Diogo Jota , with many still questioning his ability to lead the team's frontline.

Although being an impressive presser with high work rate, Nunez's lack of composure in front of goal has consistently let him down - scoring just 20 goals in 65 Premier League appearances while missing too many big chances last season.

The Reds have yet to bring in an attacker to the team, and are unlikely to do so this summer leaving Nunez as the only true center forward in the squad.

Despite not playing in the Reds' season opener win over Ipswich, Slot knows he'll rely on Nunez this season and gave a simple answer when asked how to get the best out of him, saying: "Bring him as much as we can into scoring positions."

The Uruguayan will have been disappointed with Slot not turning to him in the game, instead bringing on Cody Gakpo when Jota was brought off.

Nunez will have opportunities to shine throughout the season, with the Reds set to compete in the Champions League as well as in the EPL - with the team seemingly having no interest in bringing in another number 9 to compete with him.

Many had worried that the striker could look to move on himself, with speculation being fuelled when he removed all Liverpool-related posts from his social media accounts, leaving only images of him representing Uruguay.

The club will look to start to see a return in their investment, spending around $97 million to bring him in from Benfica - making him the club's most expensive signing of all-time

Liverpool.com says: "This looks to be a make-or-break season for Nunez, who will need to prove why he's worthy of the price tag the club paid or they'll likely begin to look for an alternate.

"Diogo Jota and Cody Gakpo will push Nunez all season, with many feeling that the Uruguayan has the highest ceiling, hoping to see him take a big leap in his third year."
