Arne Slot's bodyguard catches the eye during Liverpool win over Ipswich

The Arne Slot era got off to the best start possible as the Dutchman oversaw a 2-0 victory against Ipswich Town in his first competitive game in charge of Liverpool on Saturday. But perhaps the biggest win of the day went to Slot's bodyguard.

After a cagey first half, quickfire goals from Diogo Jota and Mohamed Salah were enough to seal all three points at Portman Road in the Reds' opening game of the 2024-25 Premier League season.

The result put Liverpool at the top of the table for a few hours prior to the 3pm kick-off's, although Slot's side still sit in a healthy looking third-place ahead of Sunday's fixtures. It might only be the opening weekend, but things couldn't have gone better for Slot and co. in their first game.

But while all eyes were on the players on the pitch, with many expecting the Reds to overpower their newly-promoted hosts at Portman Road, those elsewhere also caught the eye on Saturday afternoon - most notably Slot's bodyguard.

The Dutchman was escorted into the ground by his security team and while the 45-year-old was obviously the main focus, it was hard to ignore those either side of him, particularly the one walking behind. A bullish-looking figure, Slot's bodyguard looked as though he certainly would've taken no prisoners.

Kitted out in a grey tight-fitted top and black trousers, the shaven-headed man boasted an impressive physique and was clearly fit for the job. It's safe to say that there would have been no trouble had an imposter tried to get close to Slot.

It's not often that you see Premier League managers being escorted by a brutish security team but Liverpool had pulled out all the stops for the Dutchman's first game of the season in Suffolk this weekend.

In a post uploaded to a Liverpool Reddit thread, the caption "Slot’s bodyguard is an absolute unit" accompanied a photo of the man in question as he strolled behind the Reds boss. A second image of the bodyguard appeared further down the thread, where he could be seen escorting Salah off the pitch at the full-time whistle.

The comments section was flooded with fans in awe of the giant figure, with one person even claiming he had been seen before during a meal between Slot and former Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp at a restaurant in the city.

"He's a Liverpool contracted bodyguard iirc (if I recall correctly), I work in a restaurant in the city that had both Klopp and Slot visit and he's been there both times looking like a guard dog stoped outside. Even looks like he's gonna jump you when you walk past him to his celeb to give them food."

It's safe to say, then, that Slot is certainly being well looked after during his time at Liverpool and should any issues arise, he's in the best hands possible to prevent him from being harmed.
