Liverpool's transfer window is still yet to burst into life, with time now running out. The most significant piece of business so far by a distance is the sale of Fabio Carvalho to Brentford — although news that Joe Gomez is exploring his options could at least lead to some kind of first-team changes, with the Reds reportedly dropping the price as potential suitors line up .

The incomings column, meanwhile, remains steadfastly empty. Liverpool pursued Martin Zubimendi, but that move fell through because he opted to stay at Real Sociedad, and an alternative will not be sought.

Earlier in the summer, Richard Hughes explored an opportunistic move Anthony Gordon, but Newcastle ultimately got within its PSR allowances via other means. It would still be surprising to see Arne Slot end his first summer at Anfield without any new signings, but the clock is ticking.

One deal does appear to be making some kind of progress, although it's being lined up for 2025. Here is the Liverpool.com verdict on the transfer gossip to emerge around the Reds today, including the latest on Gomez.

    Joe Gomez

Liverpool could accept as little as $39m (£30m/€35m) for Gomez in the last two weeks of the transfer window. That's per Caught Offside .

That's the lower end of a spectrum which stretches up to $44m (£34m/€40m). Presumably, Liverpool would be able to command the higher fee if a bidding war emerged, with multiple clubs reportedly possessing an interest in the defender: the report mentions Newcastle, Aston Villa, Fulham and Bayern Munich, while Chelsea has been name-checked elsewhere .

Despite the apparent market for Gomez, Liverpool's reported asking price is a drop on the valuation it reached earlier in the summer. In the pseudo-swap arranged with Newcastle (the deals would technically have been structured separately), Gordon was going to come to Anfield for $97m (£75m/€88m), with Gomez going the other way for $58m (£45m/€53m).

Liverpool is not thought to be pushing Gomez towards the exit door, with both parties ready to reintegrate if an agreement cannot be found in what is left of the transfer window. However, it seems it has dropped its valuation by a fair margin, perhaps in an attempt to facilitate a move for the club's longest-serving player.

Liverpool.com says: Liverpool ultimately stayed out of the flurry of deals conducted among PSR-affected clubs before June 30, despite exploring the Gordon transaction. But the moves that did get done raised a few eyebrows, prompting a reminder that the Premier League checks all transfers for fair market value .

With that in mind, the $58m (£45m/€53m) Liverpool valuation of Gomez from earlier in the summer cannot have been an artificially inflated sum, allowing a proportionally higher bid for Gordon and therefore a more helpful deal from Newcastle's PSR point of view. It must have been a genuine figure — and a fair one, too, considering the experience Gomez has amassed at the highest level of the game.

A Premier League and Champions League winner, he was once a staple in the heart of the defense alongside Virgil van Dijk . That was a while ago now, but even last season he was a hugely important utility man, and Slot should not be in any hurry to lose him.

    Giorgi Mamardashvili (Valencia)

Liverpool is still seeking to secure a deal for Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili. But that is now firmly a move to be completed in 2025, per the Daily Briefing .

Interest in Mamardashvili has always been future-focused, with Alisson going nowhere. Caoimhin Kelleher also remains on the books.

But the report claims that a deal would actually be "for 2025". Whether that means a transfer would not technically go through until then remains to be seen — although talk of buying him and immediately loaning him elsewhere in the Premier League appears to overlook a league rule preventing this.

Either way, Liverpool is also said to be looking out for opportunities to strengthen the current squad in what is left of the window. Options are being "explored".

Liverpool.com says: It would be peculiar if Liverpool's only deal this summer went through (whether officially or in practical terms) in 2025. We all assumed that the first signing of the Slot era would be a key puzzle piece in his vision for the team.

Even so, Mamardashvili would be a shrewd move. He is one of the best young goalkeepers around, and Alisson will not be the best in the world forever.
