Liverpool star Andy Robertson had the perfect cheeky response to an Ipswich Town fan who gave him stick on Saturday afternoon.

The Reds got the Arne Slot era in the Premier League off to a winning start at Portman Road, dispatching Ipswich 2-0. While the first half was a nervy encounter that saw Ipswich throw everything they could at the Reds, Liverpool turned up the heat on the Premier League newcomers in the second half, producing a much improved performance.

And come the final whistle, it was Liverpool who prevailed from the clash against Ipswich, with goals from Diogo Jota and Mohamed Salah enough to see the Reds past the Tractor Boys. Playing their first game back in the top flight in over 22-years, Portman Road was raucous, with the home fans keen to give their side as big a boost as possible.

But, Liverpool's second half brace, which saw Jota and Salah score five minutes apart from each other, deflated the Ipswich atmosphere which was evident when Robertson went over to take a throw-in on 73 minutes in front of the Tractor Boys supporters.

Sauntering over to the ball which had gone out of play, Robertson looked up to see an flat-capped Ipswich fan hurling abuse at him. However, some quick thinking from the left-back had Liverpool supporters on social media howling with laughter.

Robertson decided to ignore the abuse, instead opting to turn around to pick up a new ball on top of a cone, and show the Ipswich supporter his backside - much to the delight of Liverpool fans. One fan wrote on social media: "That gave me a proper laugh. Love Robbo." A second said: "he's a s---house. but he's OUR s---house."

A third said: "Haha, I saw that. Perfect timing as there was a substitution too." A fourth added: "Of all the players this era, even including Bobby, I'll be saddest when Robbo rides off into the sunset. Loved by the fans, loved by the squad, still manages to be a stand up guy." And a fifth wrote: "Gotta love our Andy!"

Liverpool.com says: "If it was intentional, and there's every chance it wasn't, then fair play to Robertson, that's some pretty quick thinking on the fly!"
