Arne Slot's Liverpool living situation says it all compared to Jose Mourinho at Man Utd

Liverpool got its Premier League campaign off to an excellent start on Saturday afternoon, dispatching Ipswich Town 2-0 at Portman Road - and it seems new boss Arne Slot is already getting himself accustomed to life in England.

While the first half saw Liverpool struggle with the intensity of their newly promoted opponents, back in the Premier League for the first time in over 20 years, they blew Ipswich away in the second half, with goals from Diogo Jota and Mohamed Salah securing new boss Slot his first competitive win in charge of the Reds.

It was a game that saw Slot make a huge call at half time, substituting defender Jarell Quansah for Ibrahima Konate due to Liverpool failing to win enough duels that would then allow them to build and play. And it was one that paid off for the Dutchman too, with Liverpool carving through the Ipswich defence at will in the second half.

This weekend will see the Reds return to Anfield for their home opener against Brentford, who defeated Crystal Palace 2-1 on Sunday afternoon. And then after that, Slot will be faced with his biggest test yet as Liverpool boss just three weeks into the Premier League season.

September 1st sees Liverpool travel to Old Trafford to take on Manchester United. And it was recently revealed that Slot has opted to eschew just how former United boss Jose Mourinho chose to operate during his time at Old Trafford.

The Times report the ex-Feyenoord boss is living on his own in an apartment, and will not be taking up residence in the Formby house owned by Steven Gerrard , which then went on to become home to Brendan Rodgers and Jurgen Klopp .

His decision to live in an apartment by himself, while his family remain in the Netherlands, mirrors the set-up he had while he was Feyenoord boss. Slot lived in a flat opposite Feyenoord's De Kuip stadium, with his family home a four-hour trip away up in Zwolle. And it is a decision that points to Slot working in an environment he is comfortable with.

Comparatively, Mourinho, who was in charge at Old Trafford from 2016 to 2018, lived in a hotel for his entire tenure at United. While 'the special one' maintains he lived in "an amazing apartment" in Manchester's Lowry Hotel, it clearly didn't help his mood during his time at Old Trafford, with Mourinho arguably appearing at his most miserable during his time in charge of United.

"You know how I would be unhappy? I would be unhappy if I was in a house on my own," Mourinho previously said of his 895-day stay at the Lowry . "I would be very unhappy. I lived in an amazing apartment, it was not a room. It was mine all the time. It was not like after one week I had to leave. No, it was mine. I left everything there, I had my television, my books, my computer. It was a flat, with 'Bring me a caffe latte, please' or 'I don’t want to go down for dinner, bring my dinner up."

Liverpool.com says: "We're not buying that Mourinho was delighted at living in a hotel regardless of how nice it must have been. Slot has opted to work in an environment that clearly works for him. All power to him if it brings Liverpool success we say!"
