Arne Slot might have dropped 5 more Liverpool transfer hints after surprise Joe Gomez decision

Liverpool boss Arne Slot could have dropped a number of transfer exit hints following the Reds win over Ipswich Town on Saturday afternoon .

Goals from Diogo Jota and Mohamed Salah saw Liverpool past the Tractor Boys, who were making their Premier League return after over 20 years out of the top flight. Kieran McKenna's side impressed during the first half against Liverpool, but an improved second half performance by the Reds saw them overcome Ipswich.

At halftime of the contest at Portman Road, Slot made a huge call to take off Jarell Quansah for Ibrahima Konate, a decision that was made to ensure Liverpool stopped losing duels according to the Dutchman. And prior to the game, he also made another huge call by leaving out Joe Gomez from the Reds match day squad to face Ipswich.

While Gomez was away for the majority of preseason due to having been a part of England's European Championship campaign, the Reds defender was an unexpected absence from the Liverpool squad for the trip to Portman Road, potentially signalling the end of the 27-year-old's Anfield career.

Gomez, who has been linked with a move to Newcastle United, wants to play regular minutes at center-back, something which Slot cannot guarantee. The Liverpool defender has featured all over the Reds backline over the years, but now wants to play in his preferred position heading into the prime of his career.

And Gomez's omission was not the only one that offered a transfer hint heading into the final 11 days of the summer window. Reds quintet Sepp van den Berg, Nat Phillips, Tyler Morton, Ben Doak and Kaide Gordon were all left out of the squad to take on Ipswich.

Liverpool's bench on Saturday at Portman Road was incredibly strong, with the likes of Darwin Nunez, Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliot not even getting onto the pitch. Conor Bradley and Kostas Tsimikas replaced Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson respectively, while Cody Gakpo came on for Jota. Put simply, there is no space for the five players left out of the Liverpool squad.

And it will be interesting to see just who makes way in the matchday squad for Gomez should he be unable to secure a move away from Anfield this summer. Wataru Endo has been mentioned for a possible exit during the transfer window, but with Liverpool yet to find a midfielder to come into bolster their ranks, it seems unlikely they would want to weaken themselves at that position.

Liverpool.com says: "With Liverpool's squad currently bloated, it makes complete sense van den Berg, Phillips, Morton, Doak and Gordon were left out of the trip to Portman Road. Put simply, barring an injury crisis, there's no way they would feature in the Reds first team plans this season, especially not if Liverpool add one or two faces before the end of the window.

"Unless they can shift these players on permanently, expect Liverpool to work out some loan moves away from Anfield for the quintet."
