Fans have described Jurgen Klopp as the "ultimate legend" as Luton manager Rob Edwards recalled the former Liverpool boss's warm words during an encounter at Anfield.

The Reds prevailed in a 4-1 thriller against the Hatters back in February, coming from behind at half-time to score four times after the break and earn the three points. Following the clash, it appeared that then- Liverpool boss Klopp was left impressed with what he saw from the visitors on the night.

Having dominated the first period, the charismatic German was left in no doubt about the credentials of his opposite number in the dugout too. In fact, Edwards since recalled that the Reds legend made sure to encourage his peer to keep improving as a coach as he predicted a bright future for the Welshman.

Speaking on the High Performance Podcast previously, the Luton boss recalled the interactions he had with Klopp after the game as he provided a rare insight into the icon's personality behind the scenes. He said: "He was amazing. He put his arm around me when we walked in, they beat us 4-1.

"We were 1-0 up at half-time, playing really well but ultimately they were too good. Anfield was Anfield. Anfield was amazing that night, it was brilliant," Edwards continued. "And he came in after the game, put his arm around me and we were looking at the picture of him with the Champions League trophy and he was like ‘how old are you?’ ’41.’

"He said, ‘when I was your age I was as far away from that trophy as you are now'. But then he started talking about how this can be your time now and I love what you’re doing and how you’re working with the team and stuff. And I was like, wow!"

"It was really, really nice to be able to sit down and have this time with him because I know they’re incredibly busy and there’s a lot of demands on them as well. So, for him to give that time means a lot to me."

It appears that Edwards' admiration for Klopp was shared by social media users too who commented on the Hatters manager's remarks on Reddit. Taking to the website, one fan said: "The ultimate legend and gentleman, while a second fan asserted: "I still believe they should have put up a statue of Klopp - he's up there with Shanks, Paisley and Kenny.

Speaking of the coach's humility a third opined: "I'm sure we would all want one... except maybe for him lol, while another added: "Modern day Shankly. How he changed the culture of the club from top to bottom and turned the fan base around was quite incredible and no doubt has set us on a better path for the future."
