Sven-Goran Eriksson has issued a heartfelt goodbye - as he faces the final chapter of his battle with a terminal illness.

The former England manager , who is a Liverpool fan, shared his devastated pancreatic cancer diagnosis back in January - stating he might have only "a year to live". He's been on an emotional farewell tour, making stops at the stadiums of his old clubs Lazio, Benfica, and Sampdoria. He even fulfilled a longstanding wish to manage Liverpool in a legends match against Ajax this past March.

In the deeply moving Amazon Prime documentary called "Sven", Eriksson delivers an emotional parting message to supporters: "I had a good life, yes. I think we all are scared of the day when it's finished, when we die. But the life is about death as well. You have to learn to accept it, of what it is."

Continuing, he added: "Hopefully at the end, people will say, 'Yeah, he was a good man'. But everyone will not say that. I hope you will remember me as a positive guy trying to do everything he could do. Don't be sorry. Smile. Thank you for everything - coaches, players, the crowd. It's been fantastic. Take care of yourself, and take care of your life, and live it. Bye."

Renowned for being appointed as England's first foreign manager in 2001, Eriksson led the national team in three major tournaments over his five-year spell, yet the ultimate prize eluded him. He also experienced spells at Manchester City in the Premier League , Leicester in the Championship, and even a brief term as director of football at Notts County.

Eriksson's storied tenure in coaching reached far and wide across Europe, influencing top clubs such as Benfica, Lazio, Roma, Fiorentina, Sampdoria, and his Swedish beginnings at IFK Goteborg. In addition to his domestic achievements, Eriksson also took the reins of Mexico, Ivory Coast, and the Philippines national teams, capping off his international legacy before retiring in 2019.
