Liverpool target Marc Guehi has already made an intriguing transfer hint as the Reds prepare to battle Newcastle United to sign the Crystal Palace defender.

Guehi starred for England during Euro 2024 and his performances in recent months for the Eagles have made him a key target for Arne Slot to bolster the center of his defence. The 24-year-old is reportedly admired by Liverpool , according to The Athletic , with the Reds remaining open to a defensive incoming amid potential outgoings.

Guehi is hot property fresh from an impressive Euro 2024 campaign, during which he appeared to drop a transfer hint when he featured on England’s TikTok account and was asked what the best stadium he has played in is.

After deliberating, Guehi answered: “Schalke’s stadium was very good. I’d say, in the Prem, probably Newcastle. St James’ Park is just really, really loud in there, the fans make it really difficult when you go there so yeah, probably St James’ Park.”

Guehi’s apparent love for St James’ Park would seemingly be bad news for Arne Slot in any move to sign the center-back with Newcastle heavily interested in his service. The Magpies have already seen four bids rejected by Palace and are reportedly holding out for £70million to sell their star, who wore the armband in their Premier League defeat away against Brentford on Sunday.

Newcastle could yet still return with a fifth and improved bid for Guehi after Palace snubbed an offer of £60million plus £5m in add-ons last week. Eagles chairman Steve Parish is playing hardball amid Guehi’s center-back partner Joachim Anderson looking set to join Fulham in a £30m deal.

Guehi moved to Selhurst Park in the summer of 2021 in an £18m deal having impressed on loan at Championship side Swansea City the season prior. Guehi played 36 times in the Premier League in his first campaign and immediately settled into life in the top-flight.

An injury layoff of two months prevented him from making more than 25 league appearances last year, but he was able to return in time to win his place at the heart of Gareth Southgate’s backline.

A separate report from The Athletic has claimed that defensive outgoings at Anfield are a possibility. Joe Gomez was omitted from the squad that traveled to Ipswich Town on Saturday as he explores transfer options.

The future of 22-year-old defender Sepp van den Berg also looks to be away from Merseyside with Brentford and Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen both linked with a permanent move for the Dutchman who has made only four cup appearances for the Red since arriving as a teenager in 2019.
