Mohamed Salah's secrets to success include 2am gym sessions, chess and superfood diet

Mohamed Salah is quite simply a phenomenon. His record of 300 goal contributions in 350 games for Liverpool is evidence enough of that.

His consistency and longevity are to be applauded. He has yet to go more than four consecutive appearances lasting 90 minutes without scoring or assisting for the Reds. If he doesn’t score this week, chances are he will next week, and that has been the way for seven years.

But such impressive numbers don’t just happen. According to an article in the Daily Mail , Salah ranked first in the club’s pre-season fitness tests this summer, even though he is now 32 years old. The story gives further insight into how the Egyptian keeps himself in peak physical but also mental condition.

His teammates and new head coach referred to this after the 2-0 win at Ipswich last Saturday . “Only time will tell but I think everyone knows Mo looks after his body exceptionally well and does everything right,” said Andy Robertson .

“He's a model professional and someone that everyone looks up to. He leaves no stone unturned and that is why he is still in incredible shape at the age he's at. Long may that continue,” he added, while Arne Slot noted: “I see what he does to keep his body as it is, then I think there are many more years inside of him to play.”

Such dedication does not come easily. Salah’s house is reportedly fitted with two gym rooms, cryotherapy facilities and a hyperbaric chamber so that he can take care of himself at all times. It has been claimed he works out at 2am during Ramadan, a tremendous commitment to both his career and his religion.

Salah also employs a private chef, with superfoods frequently on the menu and broccoli a near constant. The closest he reportedly gets to a treat is the occasional pizza.

The former Roma man is a keen chess player too. He supposedly has an elo rating of around 1,400, which would put him in the category of ‘proficient’ according to Chess.com , and certainly above average. The same is undoubtedly true for Salah’s football, with the off-field efforts he makes helping to explain why he remains at the top of the game as he enters the autumn of his career.

Liverpool.com says: Liverpool supporters will be desperately hoping that Salah signs a contract extension with the club, rather than leaving on a free transfer at the end of 2024/25. Whatever happens, the Egyptian is clearly doing everything he can to ensure he can play at the top level into next season and beyond.
