Adrien Rabiot already revealed admiration for Liverpool legend and Anfield 'dream'

Liverpool has been credited with an interest in Adrien Rabiot. A transfer would be a childhood dream come true for the midfielder .

We're approaching the end of the transfer market , with Arne Slot still yet to make his first Liverpool signing. But there's a little less urgency when it comes to Rabiot, who is available on a free transfer after leaving Juventus in the summer.

As such, sporting director Richard Hughes could add him to the Liverpool ranks after the conclusion of the window. He may still need to act relatively soon in order to beat other potential suitors — but Manchester United has stepped away, and there is no particular rush among other clubs at present.

That's according to L’Équipe . The French newspaper reports that Liverpool, Bayern Munich and Inter Milan are all monitoring Rabiot, but that none have firmed up their interest yet.

Slot looks likely to make Giorgi Mamardashvili his first signing , but Rabiot could theoretically follow. And with the goalkeeper's arrival expected to be delayed until 2025, the World Cup runner-up would be the first player through the door in Liverpool's new era.

From what he's said in the past, it's a move that would really enthuse the 29-year-old. He has admitted he followed Liverpool growing up, thanks to a somewhat predictable idol:

"I liked Liverpool so much because I was a fan of Steven Gerrard who made me dream and therefore I followed the Reds," Rabiot told Tuttosport in 2023. "My other idol was [Zinedine] Zidane."

Whether Rabiot will get the chance to follow in the footsteps of Gerrard at Anfield remains to be seen. It does seem like a somewhat unlikely move for Liverpool to make, with the veteran not providing an obvious upgrade on the existing midfield options, and potentially blocking the route for the likes of Harvey Elliott and Curtis Jones .

Then again, if Liverpool still feels it needs greater depth after the conclusion of the transfer window, it doesn't get much better than Rabiot on the free agent market. Whether the Reds should have left themselves at risk of being in that position is another question, but Slot has not had long to assess the strengths and weaknesses of the squad.

Rabiot would add a wealth of experience and a healthy dollop of quality, too. The 48-cap France international has not enjoyed such a successful career by chance.

Even so, it would be a surprise to see him end up at Anfield. But if the opportunity presents itself, it seems we can expect Rabiot to jump at it.

Liverpool.com says: Even at this point in his career, it's still kind of hard to work out exactly what kind of midfielder Rabiot is. He's clearly a good player, but there's no obvious area where he excels, and it's hard to see how he'd really be improving the squad other than by adding strength in depth.

On a free transfer, there are worse ways to do that. But Rabiot would likely command a big wage, and would expect to get a reasonable amount of game time — it really isn't a deal that seems likely to materialize.
