Facundo Pellistri has bid farewell to Manchester United, sealing a permanent move to Greek Super League outfit Panathinaikos. The two clubs have agreed on a $6.7 million (£5.1m) fee, with an additional $2.2 million (£1.7m) in add-ons.

Pellistri is now under the management of Diego Alonso at the Greek giants. Alonso, who managed Uruguay from 2021 to 2023, gave the young winger his first cap for the national team during his tenure.

United have cleverly included a three-year buy-back clause in the deal that sees the 22-year-old head to Greece. Additionally, they will receive 45% of any future sale should he depart Panathinaikos, reports the Manchester Evening News .

The Uruguayan international joined United from Penarol in 2020 and had two loan stints with Alaves in La Liga prior to making his United debut under Erik ten Hag in the 2022/23 season, featuring against Charlton Athletic in the Carabao Cup quarter-final.

He was part of the starting line-up in the Champions League defeat to Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena early last season before being loaned out to Granada midway through the season. He found the net in a 3-3 draw against Barcelona and recently put in impressive performances for Uruguay in the Copa America this summer.

Pellistri's final outing in a United shirt came when he was brought on as a substitute in the Community Shield against Manchester City earlier this month.
