Liverpool transfer round-up as Raheem Sterling 'seeks return' amid Samu Omorodion 'offer'

Liverpool has just one week to sign some players before the transfer window slams shut, with the Reds still yet to bring in a single fresh face to the club this summer.

However, all is not as bad as it seems, with numerous reports suggesting the club is really stepping up its efforts to try and bring in at least one new arrival ahead of next Friday's deadline as Arne Slot looks to strengthen.

But despite the clock ticking down, more names are continuing to be linked with a move to Anfield as clubs become restless and players try to force through moves, as arguably the most hectic week of the football calendar gets underway.

Perhaps the most obscene transfer link to emerge on Thursday (August 22) was the one involving Raheem Sterling, who is apparently keen on a return to Anfield after almost a decade away from the club having left for Manchester City in 2015.

Now at Chelsea, however, things haven't exactly gone to plan for the forward this season, having found himself on the fringes of the first-team and teetering towards a late exit. Since being left out of Sunday's defeat to Man City, Sterling has been axed from Chelsea's European squad and had his number seven shirt given to new signing Pedro Neto.

A departure from west London is now looking likely and according to a recent report from Fichajes , Sterling is thought to want to return to Liverpool. It's added that Chelsea is locked in talks with Juventus over a possible agreement for the player, yet Sterling has his sights set elsewhere.

Also on the agenda is Atletico Madrid forward Samu Omorodion, who has reportedly been "offered" to Liverpool this summer as the Spanish giants look to get him off its books ahead of the final week of the transfer window.

That's according to HITC , which claims Omorodion has been left in limbo since his move to Chelsea fell through after both parties failed to agree on personal terms. Chelsea ended up signing Joao Felix instead, while Atletico signed Conor Gallagher with the money from the striker's sale.

Atletico still wants to shift the 20-year-old and has even presented the Spaniard to Liverpool in an effort to sell him, with Aston Villa, Arsenal, Man City and Newcastle also said to be offered the young striker ahead of next week's transfer deadline.

Elsewhere, Kostas Tsimikas could become the latest first-team star to be axed by Slot this summer as the Reds look to continue their transfer window cull of current players, with the Greek reportedly in line for a return to Olympiakos.

That's according to Greek football specialist Steve Kountourou , who says he has heard "whispers" of a move for the Liverpool man after failing to find a place in Slot's 2024-25 plans, despite starting the three pre-season friendlies in the United States and the Anfield victory over Sevilla two weeks ago.

However, it can be assumed that Liverpool would need to make signings before sanctioning such a move, especially if Joe Gomez leaves, so its unlikely the Reds would allow its back-up left-back to leave without having a ready-made replacement.
