Liverpool could face both Sepp van den Berg and Fabio Carvalho at Anfield this weekend. Brentford boss Thomas Frank has also offered an update on the future of Ivan Toney, who has interest from the Saudi Pro League .

Frank has confirmed "it’s possible" that Van den Berg, whose move to the London side was confirmed on Thursday , could be involved at Anfield on Sunday. The center-back got his wish to move away from Liverpool this summer having made it abundantly clear that he wanted to get regular game time. Eventually, the Reds got their valuation in a deal that could reach $33m (£25m/€30m).

It would be quite something if both Van den Berg and Carvalho were named in the starting XI. It is more likely that they would come off the bench, however, and be slowly integrated into the team.

Toney, meanwhile, was left out of the matchday squad as Brentford beat Crystal Palace on the opening weekend of the Premier League . Bryan Mbuemo and Yoane Wissa were both on the scoresheet in his absence.

"Who knows?" Frank said with a smile when asked if Toney would still be a Brentford player at the end of the window and whether he would be involved against Liverpool . "Let's see. Ivan trained the whole week with a good attitude in every aspect.

"He could be involved. He could not be involved. He could be here after the 30th and he could not be here. Basically, everything is up in the air. I said the whole time that if he is here, I'm very happy. If he's not here, I'm happy on his behalf."

Liverpool.com says: Whether Toney is in the Brentford team or not (and it seems unlikely that he will be given that transfer talks are continuing behind the scenes), the Bees will pose a big threat. Mbuemo and Wissa are both excellent and it will be fascinating to see how Ryan Gravenberch copes with the physicality while playing at the base of the Liverpool midfield.
