Virgil van Dijk and other members of the Liverpool squad have spoken previously about how it would be beneficial to bring in a new body or two and there are a couple of areas of the field where the Reds look light. Holding midfield is one department while even before anyone might leave, adding another defender would be no bad thing.
Anthony Gordon is a player that Liverpool admires but there is another expensive wide forward being linked with a move to Anfield today. Here is the Liverpool.com verdict on the transfer gossip to emerge regarding the Reds.
Liverpool wants to make a "marquee" signing before the end of the summer transfer window and Napoli and Georgia winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia is a target as a result. That is the unlikely transfer claim that has been made by Football Insider . Commanding a fee of north of $92m (£70m/€83m), it would be almost impossible to pull off such a move at this stage of the summer window.
Liverpool.com says: The idea of Kvaratskhelia leaving Napoli at this stage of the summer seems far-fetched. Antonio Conte is already unhappy with the way that his team has begun the new Serie A season and losing a key man (regardless of what happens with Victor Osimhen) could be another blow to the Italian, who isn't shy of making his feelings known in public.
Levi Colwill (Chelsea), Piero Hincapie (Bayer Leverkusen) and Mohamed Simakan (RB Leipzig)
Liverpool boss Arne Slot has identified Chelsea's Levi Colwill, Bayer Leverkusen's Piero Hincapie, and RB Leipzig's Mohamed Simakan as late transfer targets this summer, according to GiveMeSport . The report claims that if Joe Gomez pushes to leave, one of those three players will be signed as a replacement for the 27-year-old.
Colwill and Hincapie can both play left-back as well as in the middle which would be a useful trait for anyone that came in. With Virgil van Dijk generally having the left side of the center-back pairing tied down, a versatile left-footed option coming in would make the most sense rather than someone who can only play in that spot.
Diario Expreso adds that Liverpool and Spurs are set to battle for Hincapie. Xabi Alonso would supposedly demand $66m (£50m/€59m) for the player's signature.
Liverpool.com says: Getting anyone at this stage of the window would be tricky but Colwill, in particular, could be tough. Chelsea doesn't want to lose the player and few clubs would want to cash in on assets with limited time available to replace them.
