Man City's Ipswich response should be warning sign to Arne Slot and Liverpool

Liverpool and Arne Slot have been sent a warning from Manchester City after the title-holders came from behind to demolish Ipswich Town on Saturday.

Pep Guardiola's side entertained the Premier League newboys in its first home game of the season and despite going behind through an early goal, wasted no time in turning the game on its head with three goals in the next nine minutes to set it on its way to a 4-1 victory.

Liverpool had already defeated the Tractor Boys in its top flight opener last weekend after second-half goals from Diogo Jota and Mohamed Salah secured all three points in Slot's first competitive game in charge.

But after City went 3-1 ahead after just 16 minutes, it showed that Liverpool will have no easy route to a first Premier League title in four years. Despite winning four in a row under Guardiola, City is clearly in no mood to take its foot off the gas in the current campaign.

A hattrick for Erling Haaland also proved he is continuing to be as lethal as ever in front of goal as he targets a third-successive Golden Boot, having already notched four goals in his first two games of the season.

Then there is also the midfield presence that is Kevin de Bruyne, who despite turning 33 in June, is also showing no signs of any let up, having also got himself on the scoresheet and grabbing an assist in City's 4-1 victory against Ipswich on Saturday afternoon.

As for Liverpool, it will now hope to follow-up its own victory over Ipswich last week with another three points against Brentford on Sunday as Slot prepares to take charge of his first competitive home game as Reds boss.

The Dutchman is likely to be without center-back Jarell Quansah for the tie after the youngster picked up an injury in midweek , although he may face a late fitness test to determine his involvement in Sunday's matchday squad.

Nonetheless, Ibrahima Konate is ready and waiting in the wings to replace the 21-year-old alongside Virgil van Dijk in the heart of the defense, having actually come on for Quansah at half-time of last weekend's Portman Road contest.

Slot has an otherwise clean bill of health in his squad ahead of the visit of the Bees and is unlikely to make any further changes from the side that beat Ipswich as he aims to build some consistency within the side. Being on home soil, only a win against its London opposition will be acceptable for Liverpool.

And after City's dominant showing against Ipswich today, the Reds must also put on their own impressive performance to show that they can once again compete at the top alongside Guardiola's ruthless winning machine this campaign.
