Alisson Becker has offered his seal of approval with Liverpool closing in on a deal to sign Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili — a player who could eventually take over from the Brazilian between the sticks at Anfield .

The current number one has confirmed that while he has interest from the Saudi Pro League , he doesn't want to leave any time soon . That will be a relief for Liverpool fans with Alisson arguably the best in the world in his position.

But while the 31-year-old could still have several seasons left at the top of the game, Liverpool lining up his long-term successor — who would head out on loan until he was needed — makes sense. And Alisson has given his verdict on the player eight years his junior.

"The club needs to prepare for the future," he told media outlets including The Times ahead of facing Brentford later today. "We are not going to last forever here — I am getting old! No, for a goalkeeper I am still young — I have a lot of energy and I still have much to give for this club and I want to give to the club as much as I can.

"They will do it for different positions as well. We have so many important players with the contract expiring and the club needs to organize themselves for the future.

"I think it was a good idea. I knew about that [ Mamardashvili ] before it came out on social media and that is a good message for me because the club cares about what I think. They are doing the right thing but, on my side, as long as I have my contract here and as long as I am happy here, the club is happy with me, my family is happy here, [so] I will stay."

Liverpool.com says: If Mamardashvili is rated as one of the best up-and-coming goalkeepers and he is going to be on the move this summer, it might be now or never for Liverpool to get him. It remains the case, though, that keeping Alisson — the best in the world — for as long as possible is a must, but planning ahead is sensible.
