Liverpool boss Arne Slot has confirmed his first starting XI for a competitive game at Anfield with Jarell Quansah missing out on a starting place after sitting out a couple of training sessions earlier in the week.

Ibrahima Konate, who came on at half-time in place of the 21-year-old last weekend at Portman Road, comes into the team, while Joe Gomez is named among the substitutes alongside Quansah. The swap at center-back is the only change in the starting team that Slot makes from his first victory in charge of the Reds.

That means Alisson Becker is in goal, while Trent Alexander-Arnold , Virgil van Dijk and Andy Robertson make up the rest of the back four. Alexis Mac Allister, Ryan Gravenberch and Dominik Szoboszlai .

Mohamed Salah is joined in the forward line by Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz, with Cody Gakpo and Darwin Nunez once again among the substitutes. Harvey Elliott is also on the bench while Curtis Jones misses out on the matchday squad.

Former Liverpool duo Sepp van den Berg and Fabio Carvalho , who both joined Brentford on permanent transfers this summer, are with the visitors, with both players named among the substitutes. Thomas Frank's men are yet to score at Anfield since being promoted to the top flight.

Liverpool team in full: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson; Gravenberch, Mac Allister, Szoboszlai; Salah, Jota, Diaz.

Liverpool.com says: Brentford often plays some good soccer and these games are usually good battles. At Anfield, though, Liverpool tends to come out on top. It will be interesting to see how Gravenberch gets on against what is almost inevitably going to be a much stronger aerial and long ball threat.
