Alan Pardew slams Trent Alexander-Arnold for sulking and giving Arne Slot early Liverpool headache

Alan Pardew was critical of Trent Alexander-Arnold's reaction to being substituted during Liverpool's victory over Brentford on Sunday.

The Reds made it two wins from two so far in the Premier League as Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah scored either side of half-time to secure a second successive 2-0 victory.

Alexander-Arnold impressed during the win, but his disgruntled reaction to being substituted ended up being one of the major post-match talking points and slightly distracting away from another mightily impressive performance from Liverpool under Slot.

Former Premier League manager Pardew weighed in on the incident on talkSPORT, criticizing Alexander-Arnold for sulking but also questioning why Liverpool has allowed his contract to run into its final year.

Alexander-Arnold is one of three high-profile Reds stars who, as it stands, will be able to leave Anfield for nothing next summer, with Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk also into the final year of their deals.

"Let's just get some zeros against Liverpool - draws: none, losses: none, goals against: none, so far. That's a pretty good start for the new manager," Pardew said.

"I'll tell you what wasn't a good start for the new manager: Trent coming off and having a little... they had a little moment between them where he was obviously aggrieved. He's out of contract, that would be a worrying sign for me as a manager.

"His (Slot's) first game at home, his big day the manager, he has to deal with a player having a sulk-up, so I don't think that was particularly great. One of the things about Chelsea and their policy of not letting players run out of contract, these six or seven-year things is to keep the value, so they're buying young and keeping the value.

"They did it with their American sports teams and that makes a lot of sense. Liverpool find themselves in a bit of a hole with those three players because they are very, very important players."
