Barcelona sends Liverpool Stefan Bajcetic transfer offer too good to be true

Liverpool has received a remarkable transfer offer from Barcelona for Stefan Bajcetic just two days before the transfer window closes.

The Catalan outfit has been linked with a move for the Spanish midfielder and it now seems as though it is prepared to go all out for the Reds youngster with a last-ditch proposal.

That's according to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano , who claims that Barcelona has submitted a straight loan proposal to Liverpool for the talented midfielder.

It's added that the loan bid includes a $4.4million (£3.4m/€4m) fee, although there is no buy clause included in the deal as things stand.

The Reds have little options in terms of defensive midfielders but have been toying with the idea of letting the 19-year-old leave on a temporary basis this summer.

Bajcetic missed almost the entirety of last season because of injury and has been working his way back up to full fitness again. During pre-season, however, he struggled for minutes under new head coach Arne Slot .

Red Bull Salzburg has been strongly linked with a move for Bajcetic as former Liverpool assistant coach Pep Lijnders looks to reunite with the youngster , yet Barcelona is now hoping to swoop in ahead of the Austrian side.

Several clubs in Spain have also been keen on signing him on a season-long loan, including his former club Celta Vigo. The La Liga outfit's coach Claudio Giralde recently told La Voz de Galicia that Bajcetic returning to the club was a "possibility".

There are clearly plenty of suitors for Bajcetic and perhaps it's no surprise given he was a shining light amid Liverpool's injury struggles during the 2022-23 campaign when he broke into the first team.

But having missed out on the signing of Martin Zubimendi and failing to find an alternative, losing Bajcetic would leave the Reds worryingly short in the No.6 department.

Ryan Gravenberch has been a welcome surprise in that area of the pitch in Liverpool's opening two games of the Premier League season, but there remain questions over whether he is the long-term solution.

Wataru Endo is the only other natural in the defensive midfield role, yet Slot clearly doesn't favor the Japanese international and is unlikely to reinstate him to the starting lineup anytime soon.
