There are a lot of reasons why players are happy to sign for Liverpool. It is one of the iconic teams in world football, with an illustrious history which very few clubs can match or better.

The latest man to sign on the dotted line for the Reds is Federico Chiesa . He has joined from Juventus for $13m (£10m/€12m) plus $3.3m (£2.5m/€3m) in add-ons, signing a four year deal.

The 26-year-old has spoken to Arne Slot and discussed his new teammates (or rivals for his position, depending on your perspective). He has also imagined what it will be like to play at Anfield , as he explained in an interview for LFCTV .

Federico will not be the first member of the Chiesa family to play at Liverpool’s home ground. His father Enrico has played there in the past, scoring for Italy as it lost 2-1 to Czech Republic. That match was at Euro ’96, a little over a year before the Liverpool new boy was born.

Chiesa has never faced the Reds, either home or away, but he saw its stadium on his recent journey to England. “I just want to say something that stuck to my mind when I was about to land [in] the aeroplane,” he said in his first Liverpool interview.

"I saw Anfield and as soon as I saw Anfield I said to my wife, 'Put the song on – You'll Never Walk Alone – because I want to imagine myself playing there and hearing the chant of the fans. It was just a fun bit."

He was asked how it will feel to be on the hallowed turf for real. "I will have shivers and it will be so emotional for me and for my family,” Chiesa replied. He should get his first opportunity to find out when Nottingham Forest visit Anfield on September 14.

His family has been very supportive regarding the transfer. Asked for their reaction, Chiesa said: “We were all happy! Fortunately enough, as I said before, it was an easy decision because of Liverpool. I still need to talk to my family because today was a really busy day, but I’m grateful because my wife is here with me.”

“She was amazing, because as soon as I said Liverpool she said yes. I’ll come with you, it’s a fantastic opportunity for your career and for our family,” he added. Hopefully they enjoy his time with the Reds, especially at Anfield.

Liverpool.com says: Whatever criticism FSG receive from Liverpool fans, nobody can argue they did the wrong thing in upgrading Anfield rather than moving the club to a new home stadium without the history. Chiesa is merely the latest in a long line of players to get a buzz from thoughts of appearing there.
