Federico Chiesa explains truth about Juventus exit after brutal snub before Liverpool move

Federico Chiesa has denied suggestions that he asked for more money from Juventus ahead of his departure from the club.

The Italian has become Liverpool's first outfield signing of the summer, signing a long-term deal after the Reds agreed a fee worth up to £12.5million ($16m) with Juve for the attacker. Chiesa was frozen out in Turin by new manager Thiago Motta, who publicly said the 26-year-old was not in his plans for the season.

Reports in Italy suggested that one of the reasons that Juventus was happy to let Chiesa leave was that it did not want to meet the winger's salary demands in contract negotiations. Chiesa's contract at Juve was due to expire in 2025 but he refuted claims that asked for a salary increase during negotiations to extend his stay with the Italian giants.

Writing a farewell message to Juve on Instagram, Chiesa said: "The time has come to conclude this journey together with you, Juventus fans. I would like to dedicate a few words to thank you for the great affection you have always shown me, an affection that I will carry in my heart forever.

"I grew up with you and with Juventus, both as a man and as a footballer. You have supported me through good times and difficult times, and for that I will always be grateful to you. In these four years I have had the opportunity to work with players, staff and coaches of the highest level.

"You were like family to me and, even in the most complicated moments, you helped me get back up. I will always carry with me the joyful memories we shared. Now, in greeting you, I would like to clarify the issue of renewal.

"I have never received any renewal offer from Juventus and, consequently, there has never been a request from me or my entourage regarding an increase or reduction in my salary. I was informed that I would not be part of the project even before training with the team began. Thank you once again for your constant support. Thank you, Juventus. Until the end."
