Liverpool head coach Arne Slot has admitted that new signings Federico Chiesa and Giorgi Mamardashvili have been signed as reinforcements for the short and long term .

The new Reds boss made the first additions of his reign late on in the summer transfer window as he looks to usher in a new era at Anfield . Italian international Chiesa is the club's latest purchase, with the winger signing for $13 million from Juventus after four seasons in Turin.

Unlike Mamardashvili, who will spend this season on loan back at Valencia after signing for Liverpool, the 26-year-old will play his part during Slot's first campaign. He will be looking to reignite his career in the Premier League , having impressed last term in Italy after a couple of injury-hit seasons.

Having taken over in the hotseat following the departure of Jurgen Klopp after nine successful years, Slot has made a strong start on Merseyside with two wins in his first couple of games. Now, the Dutchman has spoken in glowing terms about the first two signings of his tenure as Liverpool boss.

Providing insight into the plans for both Chiesa and Mamardashvili moving forward, Slot admitted that the pair have been signed with the present and future in mind. He said: "Again, a lot of questions in one, we're happy with the ones we've signed because it is a strong team so if we find players we're happy.

Chiesa can help for the short term and Mamardashvili is I think an example of what this club does in the past looking at the future of the club. "Today? I am not expecting anything but it is no different than all the days before but if we see an opportunity, we will see but not expecting anything."

‌Going into further detail about what Chiesa can add to his squad, Slot was certain that the Euro 2020 winner would be able to make an impact at Anfield. Assessing the forward's attributes, the former Feyenoord coach was convinced that his new signing would integrate well in his new surroundings.

He added: "I'm excited, if we sign someone who can help us and improve the squad, of course you're excited to get him in. One of the best things of working here is the culture of this team; they work so hard to achieve their goals and I think it is important the first player you bring in has the same culture.

"He works really hard on and off the pitch, he can score goals and is aggressive off the ball and he can play so many positions, an interesting signing. We will take care of him because he hasn't trained much but we have good performance staff to build him in the right way and we can see his quality in the near future."
