Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard has expressed his delight at the signing of Federico Chiesa. The Italian international, who was a key part of Italy's Euro 2020 winning squad, completed his move to Anfield this week, signing a four-year contract after a deal was agreed with Juventus.

Chiesa is Liverpool's second summer acquisition , following the earlier signing of Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia. The forward, who initially joined Juventus on loan in 2020, had also attracted interest from Barcelona and clubs in Saudi Arabia.

Gerrard, who now manages Saudi Pro League side Al Ettifaq, shared his excitement about the new addition to Liverpool's attack on social media. He reposted the club's announcement of Chiesa's signing on his story, adding a series of emojis to express his enthusiasm.

This public endorsement comes shortly after a video surfaced online showing Chiesa during his time in Italy. When asked who he thought was the better midfielder out of Gerrard, Frank Lampard and Paul Scholes, the former Fiorentina forward responded: "Who would I rather have in my midfield? Stevie G.."

Chiesa might be seen donning the Liverpool jersey for the first time against Manchester United at Old Trafford this Sunday, provided he gets his international clearance on time. If not, his debut could be delayed until September 14 when Nottingham Forest make their way to Anfield.

Former Reds defender Jamie Carragher has also had his say on the transfer, telling Sky Sports: "I think it is a fantastic deal. In all of the time that Mohamed Salah has been at the club, Liverpool has never really had anyone to fill in that role.

"He stands out so much and is that durable, he never misses games. Jota and Diaz played there at times but seemed a lot more confident on the left. I think Chiesa will initially be back-up for Salah but he has that contract situation and we don't know what will happen.

"If you go back to the Euros, he looked a top player. He had a bad injury after that but he played a lot of games last season. I think it is a great deal for Liverpool.

"When Manchester United won the Treble in 1999, they had four strikers. And this is the same in some ways. The way the game has changed, teams play with three attackers. Liverpool has six and there will be a lot of rotation."
