Liverpool confirms late deadline day deal after transfer window closes

Liverpool has secured a deadline-day loan move for talented 19-year-old Kaide Gordon. The teenage winger will join Championship outfit Norwich City on a season-long loan.

Gordon was unlikely to see much game time for Liverpool this season, especially after the club signed fellow winger Federico Chiesa . He follows Ben Doak (to Middlesbrough) out the door to earn game time.

A spot on the wing just opened for Norwich , as they recently sold talented winger Abu Kamara to Hull City for a reported £4.5 million. Liverpool signed Gordon in 2021 from Derby Count y in a deal that could still rise to £3.4 million if certain add-ons are hit. He signed a new long-term contract with the Reds this summer.

Gordon has featured seven times for the senior side since joining. Ironically, he debuted against Norwich in the third round of the 2021-22 Carabao Cup.

On the day, he lined up in a front-three for Jurgen Klopp alongside Takumi Minamino and Divock Origi in a relatively routine 3-0 victory.

Gordon was a key part of the busy 2021-22 winter period when Liverpool was pushing for the quadruple and both Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane were away at the African Cup of Nations

The former Derby player earned a start against Arsenal in the Carabao Cup semifinals that year and scored his lone goal for Liverpool in the FA Cup against Shrewsbury Town.

Aged just 17 at the time, he became the club's second-ever youngest scorer and the youngest in Liverpool's FA Cup history. Unfortunately, Gordon missed the entire 2022-23 with injuries.

Klopp was effusive in his praise for the youngster when he returned from injury. “From the first day back in training, we all realised immediately, ‘ah, that’s what we missed, that’s what we had already.' ”

"So nothing happened really, still a fantastic player, still incredibly young and he is now again around the first team. We try to give him as much game time as possible with the U21s."

Gordon is joining a Norwich side off to a slow start in the Championship under new boss Johannes Hoff Thorup, sitting 20th in the table after three games.

However, the Canaries are expected to push for the playoffs. Last season, they finished sixth under former manager David Wagner but were pummeled by Leeds 4-0 in the playoffs.
