Deadline day was not a p articularly eventful one for Liverpool after the Reds wrapped up deals for Giorgi Mamardashvili and Federico Chiesa earlier on in the week.

Many fans are of the opinion that Liverpool didn't do enough business during the transfer window to remain competitive on all fronts this season, particularly considering the Champions League format has been expanded to involve even more matches.

However, although the window is shut, Liverpool is still able to sign free agents. Here are three players currently without a club who could fit the bill for Arne Slot...

    Adrien Rabiot

Adrien Rabiot, still only 29, is a free agent after being released by Juventus at the end of his contract earlier in the summer. According to Transfermarkt figures, the Frenchman is the most valuable free agent in the world at $39m.

Rabiot is a central midfielder who can also operate from a deeper position, and that is exactly the kind of player Liverpool might need. The Reds, of course, wanted to sign a new midfielder this summer but missed out on primary target Martin Zubimendi after he opted to remain at Real Sociedad.

    Mario Hermoso

Mario Hermoso left Atletico Madrid at the end of his contract following five years with the La Liga giants. The 29-year-old centre-back was a regular for Atleti last term, playing 45 times in all competitions.

Liverpool are a defender down from last season, having not replaced Joel Matip, who himself became a free agent after leaving Anfield at the end of June.

    Memphis Depay

Signing a former Manchester United player would not go down well with all of Liverpool's fans, but the reality is Memphis Depay is very loosely tied to the United, having spent 18 underwhelming months at Old Trafford and left in January 2017.

Depay has gone on to play for a number of clubs since departing United, including Barcelona and Atletico Madrid, so is no stranger to competing on the biggest stages. Depay also appeared in all six of the Netherlands' games in their run to the semi-finals of Euro 2024.
