Liverpool only signed one player in Arne Slot's first summer in charge with Federico Chiesa arriving from Juventus . Giorgi Mamardashvili could prove to be a masterstroke but won't join up with the Reds until 2025.

Chiesa, who was in the final year of his Juventus contract and wasn't wanted by new manager Thiago Motta, has a checkered past when it comes to injuries. As a result, Liverpool was able to get a bargain price for his services.

According to a statement released by the Serie A giant, Liverpool will pay $13.3m (£10.1m/€12.0m) guaranteed with a possible $3.3m (£2.5m/€3.0m) in add-ons. That will be payable over four years, which is the length of the contract that Chiesa has signed at Anfield .

"This transaction generates a negative economic impact on the 2023/2024 financial year equal to €3.0m due to the residual value write-down of the net book value of the player’s registration rights," Juventus' statement continued.

On social media, Chiesa moved to debunk suggestions that he rejected offers from Juventus and that his Liverpool deal includes a pay rise. "Now, while saying goodbye, I would like to clarify the issue of the renewal," he wrote.

"I have never received any offer of renewal from Juventus and, consequently, there has never been a request from me or my entourage regarding an increase or a reduction in my salary.

"I was informed that I would not be part of the project even before the start of training with the team. I thank you once again for your constant support. Thank you, Juventus. Until the end."

Liverpool.com says: Chiesa's injury history is not great and that has to be a concern. There is no point pretending that isn't the case. If he can keep himself fit, though, he could be the signing of the summer.
