Some Liverpool fans were left worried on Friday as Federico Chiesa exited his first Liverpool training session early.

The Italian forward joined the Reds from Juventus earlier this week, with the Reds agreeing to pay a fee that could rise to $16million.

Chiesa was frozen out by new Bianconeri manager Thiago Motta, and Liverpool secured his services for a cut-price fee as he was in the last year of his contract in Turin.

Chiesa has had a tough time with injuries in recent years and has seen his reputation as a pacy, dynamic winger suffer as a result.

So, naturally there were concerns among some Liverpool fans when he didn't take part in an attacking drill that Mohamed Salah , Diogo Jota , Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo were all involved in.

However, Chiesa gave a thumbs-up as he left the training pitch, appearing to allay any fears that he has suffered an early injury.

It is likely that Chiesa's early departure from the session was pre-planned by Arne Slot, with the Italian's involvement in training sessions set to gradually increase over the coming days, as is also the case when players return to Liverpool for pre-season after their summer breaks.

Slot said during his press conference on Friday that Chiesa was unlikely to be involved at Old Trafford. “He’s going to train with us today but it’s a bigger chance that he is not in the squad for Sunday than he is,” Slot said.

“If injuries might come up in the upcoming two days we might need him, but I don’t expect him to be in but I cannot guarantee this.”

One player who Liverpool will be without against United is Curtis Jones . “At the moment there are not any other injuries except for Curtis Jones and he will not train with us today," Slot said on Friday. "But the rest will train with us today.”
