Liverpool and Man Utd combined XI as Bruno Fernandes one of just TWO Erik ten Hag stars included

Rivalries don't come much bigger than Liverpool and Manchester United . The two biggest clubs in England will meet again in the Premier League later today with Arne Slot and Erik ten Hag meeting in England for the first time.

But who would make a combined XI based on current form and availability? It would be fair to say that Liverpool has the stronger squad but Manchester United has done plenty in the transfer market this summer. Let's take a look...

In goal, the obvious pick is Alisson Becker . Andre Onana has done well enough for Ten Hag but Liverpool's number one is the best in the world when he is fit and in form. Keeping two clean sheets so far this season, Alisson has to be in the team.

In defense, Liverpool dominates as well. Noussair Mazraoui could be a smart signing for Manchester United but it would be hard to look past Trent Alexander-Arnold at right-back. Virgil van Dijk and Andy Robertson also make the back four.

Between Ibrahima Konate , Jarell Quansah, Matthijs de Ligt and Lisandro Martinez, there isn't a great deal. Konate and De Ligt at their best would make the team, perhaps, but both are still working their way back to 100 per cent sharpness.

In midfield, both teams are struggling for number six options. Martin Zubimendi opted against a move to Liverpool while Manuel Ugarte will be missing out on playing here having arrived too late from PSG.

Kobbie Mainoo and Alexis Mac Allister make the team but there is a strong case for Ryan Gravenberch based on the small sample size of the last couple of matches. Bruno Fernandes edges out Dominik Szoboszlai in the more advanced midfield position as his output remains very impressive.

In the attack, we return to Liverpool being dominant. Mohamed Salah is a must and Diogo Jota is fit and firing at the moment so the Portugal striker is comfortably the best of the number nine options. On the left flank, Luis Diaz is better than Marcus Rashford or Alejandro Garnacho and has started the campaign in flying form.

Our Liverpool and Manchester United combined XI: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, De Ligt, Van Dijk, Robertson; Mainoo, Mac Allister; Salah, Fernandes, Diaz; Jota.
