Gary Neville and Roy Keane in agreement over Man Utd tactic Arne Slot and Liverpool can exploit

Gary Neville appeared to send a warning to Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag ahead of Sunday's game against Liverpool by stressing the importance of playing a striker - a tactic Arne Slot will surely look to capitalize on.

Liverpool heads to Old Trafford for the first meeting between the two sides under Slot, and the Dutchman is looking to continue his side's perfect start to the Premier League season - two games, two wins, four goals, none conceded.

For United, it's been a difficult start - victory at home to Fulham was followed up by a disappointing defeat against Brighton, and both Neville and Roy Keane think there are mistakes being made by the Red Devils.

Speaking on Sky Sports, former right-back Neville expressed the importance of playing with a striker - something Ten Hag hasn't done this season, instead playing Bruno Fernandes as a false nine.

He said: "I think at the moment, is this the way he's going to play? He's without a centre-forward, I think it's hard to play without a centre-forward, full-stop.

"[Joshua Zirkzee] hasn't played a lot of football over the summer so he's bringing him on after 45, 60 minutes. It'll be interesting to see if Zirkzee plays today. I think what they'll want to see here, you talk about the CEOs from Man City, Dan Ashworth, they'll want to see a style of play, a pattern established.

"That's not what we've seen in the first two years from Erik ten Hag. We've seen even in these first couple of games, changing the back four during the game, changing the system during the game, bringing the centre-forward on during the game. There's three things he's done in the first two matches that have corrected his initial team shape. I think we've got to get away from that so there's a stability to it."

Keane agreed with Neville, and admitted he was concerned about the lack of goals coming from United - admitting the mistakes from last season don't appear to have been addressed.

He added: "I know there's only a couple of games gone but I'm still worried about the problems from last year, missing chances, not scoring enough goals, and I still think from the couple of games including the community shield, they look very very open.
