Gary Neville slams 'unprofessional' Liverpool star - and Jamie Carragher agrees

Gary Neville didn't hold back in his criticism of Dominik Szoboszlai during Liverpool's emphatic Premier League triumph over Manchester United. He went as far as to call the midfielder "unprofessional" on Sky Sports .

Liverpool maintained its perfect start under Arne Slot with a dominant 3-0 victory at Old Trafford. Luis Diaz bagged a brace, and Mohamed Salah sealed the deal with another goal against the Red Devils, continuing his impressive scoring streak.

The Reds could have piled even more misery on a lackluster United side. Trent Alexander-Arnold had earlier seen a goal chalked off for offside, and only several desperate tackles prevented United from conceding further.

In the second half, with the score already 3-0, Szoboszlai squandered a golden chance to add his name to the scoresheet. After a solid build-up on the right flank, the ball found the Hungarian ace in the penalty area, but he failed to convert.

He hesitated too long before shooting, and when he finally decided to take the chance, he opted to cut back instead, allowing United to regain control. It came shortly after Erik ten Hag's side had produced a warning sign of sorts at the other end, mustering a rare threat on Liverpool's goal.

Sky Sports commentators Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher were baffled by Szoboszlai's choice during the match. "What is he doing? Just finish it. [He's] trying to be cocky," remarked Carragher.

Neville then chimed in: "He's messing around there; he should be absolutely rollicked by his teammates for that - that's a liberty."

Carragher didn't hold back, labelling Szoboszlai's actions as "absolutely ridiculous". Neville chimed in with his own critique, stating: "Something like that I call unprofessional [if] you do it in training, let alone in a match at Old Trafford when you're 3-0 up."

Liverpool.com says: It was strange to see Neville and especially Carragher go in so hard on Szoboszlai. Yes, he made the wrong choice in the moment, but it didn't seem like some act of outrageous showboating.

Had the score-line been different, Szoboszlai would have been criticized for his poor decision-making, but the bizarre idea that it was somehow an attitude problem would not even have come about. Yet it seemed to take hold on the Sky Sports commentary gantry.

Szoboszlai has made a great start to life under Slot, making the most advanced midfield position his own despite stiff competition from the likes of Harvey Elliott . He'll know he should have done better with the opportunity, but he will still sleep easy after playing his part in such a resounding Old Trafford win for Liverpool.
