Liverpool could sign Brazilian wonderkid as scouts sent to watch teenage sensation

Liverpool could be about to sign a Brazilian wonderkid after scouts were sent to watch the teenage sensation, according to reports.

The summer transfer window may have just closed but it appears the Reds are still in the market for further additions, having missed out on some of its top targets in recent months. Of course, Liverpool cannot make any signings until the January transfer window at the earliest, but it doesn't mean business can't be wrapped up in due course as the Reds prepare for the future.

And it appears Palmeiras wonderkid Vitor Reis could be the next one through the Anfield doors, with a report from Caught Offside stating that sources with a close understanding of the player’s situation claim there is growing interest in the talented 18-year-old defender from a number of clubs in Europe, including the Reds.

Furthermore, scouts from Liverpool have also been present at recent games to monitor his progress, meaning a future move could well and truly be on the cards.

However, scouts from Arsenal , Real Madrid , Barcelona and Benfica have also been sent to watch the young center-back, so Liverpool faces tough competition if it is to get a deal over the line for one of Brazil's most promising young stars.

The teenager's strong performances in his native Brazil have been enough for Europe's biggest clubs to take note this summer, following positive reports that date back to his time in the youth team at Palmeiras.

Having joined the club's academy in 2016 at the age of 10, Reis soon established himself as a key player for Palmeiras' youth teams, which often led to him captaining the sides.

Prior to his first-team breakthrough earlier this year, the Brazilian was named by The Guardian as one of the best players born in 2006 worldwide, alongside his then Palmeiras teammates Endrick, who moved to Real Madrid this summer for an initial $38million (£29m/€35m).

Reis made his first-team debut for Palmeiras as recently as June, coming on as a 74th minute substitute in a 3-0 away defeat to Fortaleza in Série A. In the following game, he grabbed his first start and goal for the club in the 2-0 victory over Corinthians, playing the full 90 minutes.

He also grabbed the only goal of the game as Palmeiras beat Flamengo 1-0 in the Last 16 of the Copa do Brasil on August 8, but it wasn't enough to send Verdão through to the next round having lost the first leg 2-0.

On the international stage, Reis was capped three times by Brazil Under-16s before making his debut for the U-17s in March 2023, whom he now has eight appearances for.

But two goals and three clean sheets in just 14 first-team appearances ( Transfermarkt ) for Palmeiras certainly makes good reading for the teenager, who is looking odds on to secure an inevitable move to Europe fairly soon.

How much it will cost to pluck the teenage talent from Palmeiras is unknown, although his current deal, which initially ran through to 2025, has been recently extended to December 31, 2028 following his impressive start to life in the first-team, according to The Rio Times .

Reis would certainly fit the profile for a young center-back Liverpool is looking for, especially as it eyes a long-term successor to club captain Virgil van Dijk , who recently turned 33 and is out of contract at the end of the season.
