Micah Richards and Gary Lineker in agreement over Mohamed Salah's Liverpool future

Micah Richards and Gary Lineker are in agreement over Mohamed Salah's Liverpool future as the Egyptians Reds career dwindles down.

The 32-year-old is out of contract at the end of this season after entering the final 12 months of his current deal this summer, yet another inspired performance against Manchester United on Sunday showed there are no signs of slowing down for the winger.

With a goal and two assists in the 3-0 victory , Salah took his goal contributions to six in just three games this season, proving once again that he remains an integral part of the Liverpool team.

Following the game, however, Salah dropped a major bombshell over his future by claiming that it was his last trip to Old Trafford for the Reds as things stand, revealing that he is yet to have any contact with the club over a new contract.

But speaking on the Rest is Football podcast , Richards says that he expects Salah to sign a two-year contract extension at the club - but the ultimate decision is down to him, and not Liverpool, Lineker adds.

Richards said: “I think he will sign a new deal. I think he’ll sign another two years. I don’t think Liverpool can let him go for free.”

Gary Lineker added: “It’s up to Salah, then," before Richards replied: “Yeah, I think they’ll convince him. You can tell he is very much in his (Arne Slot’s) plans.”

The player-turned-pundit is bang on that Liverpool cannot afford to let a player of Salah's caliber leave for free, considering all he has gone for the club and the way he is adored by the fans.

Although Liverpool paid just $45.1million (£34.3m/€40.7m) for Salah when it signed him from Roma in 2017, which surely has to be one of the bargains of the century, letting a man who has 214 goals and 92 assists in 352 games leave for nothing has to be avoided at all costs.

And even more so given the Egyptian has hit the ground running yet again in his eighth season at Anfield , registering three goals and three assists in Liverpool's first three games of the season to help take them joint-top in the Premier League .

Judging by Salah's comments and body language following Liverpool's Northwest derby victory on Sunday, it appears he is happy at the club and would like to remain past the end of this season. Hopefully the club's hierarchy can see this and will sit down with Salah and his agent before it's too late.
