Jamie Carragher believes Liverpool star Mohamed Salah will continue to play football at the highest level into his late 30s.

Salah has been exceptional for Liverpool since joining the Reds in 2017 and has started the new season in brilliant form, scoring three goals and registering three assists in three appearances.

The Egyptian is out of contract at Liverpool at the end of the season and could opt to move to the Saudi Pro League, where he will undoubtedly be offered a mega-money deal.

However, while the riches on offer to high-profile players in Saudi Arabia are unmatched, the standard of football is far lower than what Salah is used to in England, and Carragher believes Salah has it in him to play at the top level for several years to come.

“Mo Salah is a bit like Ronaldo," Carragher told Sky Sports. "Most footballers think about retiring at 35 but I think he will be playing into his late 30s. He will want to break every record he can.

"There are lots of players and wingers who have won more medals than him but there are very few, if any, wide players who have his numbers and quality. Ryan Giggs had longevity but Salah is right up there with Ronaldo for wide forwards we have seen in Premier League history."

Carragher added that he believes Salah is now in the debate around who the best Liverpool player of all time is. He added: "He is a Liverpool and Premier League legend. I actually think he is getting close to Steven Gerrard and Sir Kenny Dalglish as Liverpool’s greatest ever player. He is that good.”
