Richard Keys has stirred the pot once again with Jamie Carragher, hinting that the former Liverpool star's past misdemeanour was more severe than the incident that led to his own Sky Sports exit.

Keys left the broadcaster in 2011 alongside ex-Everton player and pundit Andy Gray after their off-air comments about female assistant referee Sian Massey-Ellis were exposed, along with other sexist remarks.

Now with BeIN Sports, both Keys and Gray haven't shied away from criticizing their old workplace. Keys has now questioned why Carragher still holds his position at Sky Sports after the latter was caught on camera spitting towards a football fan and his young daughter post-match near Old Trafford in 2018.

On The Obi One Podcast, Keys expressed his views: "If it's OK to spit on teenagers and continue to be employed then great. For me that was far more a serious offence - but I'm not making the judgement on that!

"I was pleased he didn't [get sacked] as it gave me the opportunity to say to you guys, when you consider what happened to us, for the 'crimes' we were accused of (and accept) and what he did on film... there's no comparison."

After the incident, Carragher was handed a suspension for his conduct but resumed his role five months later. Immediately after the incident, the ex-Liverpool defender expressed his remorse in a sorry interview.

"What I would say is there is no doubt what I've done is disgusting. I apologize for it. If someone in that game had done that, I'd have vilified them for the next few days.

"What I hope, after 25 years in the public eye, is that five seconds of madness will not overshadow my life. Hopefully moving forward I can demonstrate who I truly am - I don't think that's a genuine representation of me. I've made errors, but this is a significant one."

The triggering point that brought Keys and Gray's antics into focus was a transcript of a pre-match chat before a Premier League face-off between Wolves and Liverpool.

"Somebody better get down there and explain offside to her," Keys was caught on tape saying. To which Gray responded: "Can you believe that? A female linesman. That's exactly why I was saying; women don't know the offside rule." Keys added to that, stating: "Of course they don't......urrghhh. The game's gone mad."

Frictions between Keys and Carragher have surfaced before. The former Sky Sports anchor labelled Carragher 'borderline racist' in 2022, leading the ex-defender to retort by calling Keys a 'sad, desperate man'.
