Liverpool has continued its pattern of snapping up some of the best young talent around with the Reds completing the signing of teenager Rio Ngumoha from Chelsea.

Ngumoha, who has been described as one of the best players in his age group in the country and has represented England at U16 level, signs as a scholar at Liverpool after a deal was concluded.

It was first reported in July that the 16-year-old had decided to leave Chelsea , leaving the Premier League side 'furious'. He chose to move to Anfield but the switch had to get approval from the Premier League. Such a process is standard when a player moves between academies.

  • According to The Athletic , no compensation fee has been agreed between Liverpool and Chelsea, although it is likely to be a six-figure sum for the teenager. Ngumoha confirmed his move on Instagram as he posed with a No.11 shirt at Anfield and inside the first-team dressing room.

Ngumoha arrives on Merseyside with a great reputation having shone with Chelsea's academy sides. He featured for Chelsea's Under-21s at the age of just 15 earlier this year and has even trained with the Blues' first team.

He will link up with Liverpool's Under-18s, coached by Marc Bridge-Wilkinson, and will likely make his debut later this month. Similar signings last year included the hugely talented Trey Nyoni from Leicester City, who is catching the eye under new boss Arne Slot already this season.

Liverpool also signed center-back Amara Nallo from West Ham United in 2023. Harvey Elliott (Fulham), Kaide Gordon (Derby County), Bobby Clark (Newcastle United), James McConnell (Sunderland) and Ben Doak (Celtic) are other examples of players who have chosen the Reds as their next step, convinced by the opportunities that they will be provided with.

The Reds also confirmed the signing of teenage defender Alvin Ayman from Wolves last week. The 16-year-old arrives after a deal was agreed with the Premier League side.
