With a new boss in Arne Slot at the helm, there was widespread speculation that Liverpool would be adding a Dutch flair to their roster this summer.

Despite such talk, no fresh faces from the Netherlands were snapped up to stand alongside the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Cody Gakpo and Ryan Gravenberch at Anfield when the transfer window slammed shut.

But this certainly doesn't suggest a lack of interest on the Reds part. Names like Teun Koopmeiners and Joey Veerman have come up, both mentioning the attention they received over the summer during the current international break.

  • Harvey Elliott dealt huge injury blow as Liverpool midfielder suffers broken foot
  • Each of them was initially called up by the Netherlands manager Ronald Koeman for their Nations League fixtures; however, only Veerman missed out due to an injury while Koopmeiners didn't make the cut for the final team selection.

He was officially unveiled as a Juventus player earlier this week and lifted the lid on the interest from elsewhere. He said: "Maybe yes, other clubs were interested in me this summer, but I was only interested in Juventus".

The now-ex-Atalanta midfielder had been continuously linked to the Merseysiders ahead of the transfer window's opening, even before Slot's appointment gave rise to such rumors' Veerman was another one hotly tipped for a move to Liverpool, although he remained with PSV Eindhoven as the window concluded.

In discussion with ESPN back in his home country, Veerman said: "It's their right, but PSV went very high [with their asking price]. That didn't help me personally."

Veerman disclosed on his summer transfer saga, highlighting that despite interest from various clubs including one in the Premier League, PSV wouldn't approve a move. He mentioned, "The Premier League is not necessarily a dream for me. I would very much like to play in Spain or Italy as well. That always appeals to me."

Veerman also emphasized the allure of life beyond football, adding, "Life there is also important to me. It's nice to play football there [from what] I hear from all kinds of guys in the Dutch national team."
