Liverpool kicks off its Champions League campaign against a familiar foe on Tuesday night with the Reds taking on AC Milan at the San Siro.

The two sides played out arguably the finest European final of all time in 2005 when Liverpool fought back from 3-0 down at half-time to emerge victorious in Istanbul. Milan would get revenge two years later though, winning 2-1 in Athens.

Tuesday night's encounter is the first of eight group stage matches for Arne Slot's side after UEFA introduced a new 'league phase' after revamping the competition. It means Liverpool may have to play 17 times if it is to go all the way and win the competition.

  • Four things spotted in Liverpool training ahead of Milan trip
  • Liverpool fans will love what happened after Slot lost his first match in charge of Feyenoord
  • Slot will be after a response from his players after his 100 percent start to the campaign came to a crashing halt with a home defeat to Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

Here is all you need to know ahead of the encounter in Italy, including TV channel for UK and US viewers and team news as Liverpool begins its next European adventure.

How to watch AC Milan vs Liverpool

The match at the San Siro gets underway at 8pm BST (3pm ET). The match will be shown live on Amazon Prime for viewers in the UK, rather than TNT Sports.

The streaming platform has won the rights to show the top match on Tuesday each week during the new league phase. Highlights will be available on BBC.

For supporters in the US, the match will be shown on Paramount+ while CBS will also be showing the goal action with the help of Anfield icon Jamie Carragher and the rest of the punditry team.

    Team news

Arne Slot has an almost fully fit squad to choose from ahead of the encounter with Milan. Harvey Elliott remains absent with a broken foot but Federico Chiesa could make his debut.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Slot revealed the Italian would start on the bench but Alexis Mac Allister is expected to keep his place in the starting line-up after coming off against Forest.

Milan will be without ex-Arsenal midfielder Ismael Bennacer through injury as he will need surgery on an ankle problem. Alessandro Florenzi remains a long-term absentee while Malick Thiaw and Davide Calabria are doubts.

What Arne Slot said ahead of game

"I don't think any manager is scared to play the other team but we have a lot of respect for AC Milan. They have quality, we're not scared but we respect all their players. They have shown they are in good form with a very good 4-0 win. Scared is not the word we would use. We respect a lot."
