Liverpool 'willing to submit huge offer' for Real Madrid star to replace Mohamed Salah

Liverpool has identified its man to replace Mohamed Salah in the form of Real Madrid star Rodrygo - and it could make a mammoth offer to do so.

That's according to Fichajes . The Spanish publication has reported that Liverpool is “willing to put on the table a figure close to 100 million euros” ($111m/£83m) in exchange for the Brazilian. The story notes that while Real are not looking to sell Rodrygo, it does not consider him non-transferable either. Ultimately, every player in world football is available if the money is right.

The Madrid winger is under contract until 2028 and is valued at $123m (£92m/€110m) by Transfermarkt . And, if this deal were to be completed, it would make Rodrygo the record signing in the history of Liverpool.

He would also move into the top 20 most expensive players of all time. With a current salary of $267k (£202k/€240k) a week, any deal for the former Santos man would involve an enormous outlay for the Reds. But that is likely what it will cost to replace one of the club’s greatest ever players.

Salah seems hellbent on breaking every record he can. Despite starting almost every game, he is now third on the club’s all-time substitute goals list. With 14, he only trails David Fairclough (18) and former teammate Roberto Firmino (16).

Assuming he stays with the club beyond this season, further goals from the bench seem inevitable. But he will need to be replaced eventually, nobody escapes age forever. Although, replacing Salah will be a near-impossible task. He has delivered just shy of a goal or assist every 90 minutes across a seven-year period. Players who are that productive at the level at which Liverpool operates are rarer than gold dust.

However, his average was 0.73 goal contributions per 90 at Roma across his age 23 and 24 seasons. The Reds’ forthcoming Champions League opponent from the Spanish capital has a 23-year-old who has delivered 0.64 goals and assists per 90 across the last four years, so should certainly be on Liverpool’s short list.

Liverpool.com says: The eyewatering sums involved make this feel like a non-starter for Liverpool. Until Salah signs a contract extension, though, it will need to be planning for his exit next summer and a suitable replacement will not come cheaply.
